Description:

Rare mat glaze bowl with carved fiddlehead ferns done in 1909, presumably by Mattie Foglesong. Why presumably? Foglesong is listed as working at Rookwood until 1902 and this sculpted piece, which looks more like Van Briggle than Rookwood, is dated 1909. Further research turns up a small number of 1909 pieces with the MF logo, all being quite unique and unexpected. Impressed Rookwood logo, IX, Shape number 956, V. Incised MF. Height 2 1/4 inches. Diameter 5 3/8 inches.
